Madeline R. (Person) Smitley

Madeline R. (Person) Smitley, 92 passed away peacefully at her home on August 15, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Madeline was born in Uniontown, PA on June 6, 1927, to Dr. Carl H. and Evalyn (Cowgill) Person.

She was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church and active member of the Wesley Class, Rebecca Circle and the Golden Age. She was a former secretary for Mallory-Fullmer Company, then a payroll clerk for the Uniontown Hospital. Her life centered around her family and the church where she loved volunteering in fund raising activities like the Chocolate Easter Egg sale. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. Her family returned that love and will miss her greatly and cherish the memories.

Madeline is survived by her four children: Charles (Marlene) Smitley Jr. of Uniontown, PA, Rebecca Andres of Niles, Ohio , Randy (Holly) Smitley of Hopwood, PA and Laura (Tim) Leasure of Bruceton Mills, WV ; six grandchildren: Joy (Dean) Fisher, Tracy (Dan) Zarlingo, David (Shelly) Blosser III, Charles (Charity) Smitley III, Michael (Jamie) Smitley, and Eric Smitley. Nine great- grandchildren: Natalie Stacy, Justin (Kelsey) Fisher, Jessica (Joe) Rolla, Courtney Stacy, Jerad Fisher, Kayla Blosser, Jason Blosser, Madeline Grace Smitley and Michael Smitley. Five great-great grandchildren: Brynn, Mason, Connor, Grayson and Dwayne and many nieces and nephews.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles William Smitley Sr who preceded her in death on November 14, 1965; eight siblings and two great-great grandsons Gauge and Owen Fisher.

The family wishes to thank her wonderful, loving and compassionate caregivers who assisted with her care the past few years and to make her final days so much more comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Madeline’s honor to the Calvary United Methodist Church in Uniontown, PA.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, August 18th, from 12 to 3:00 p.m. and 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the Shell Funeral Home, Inc. 164 S. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA. Services will be held on Monday, August 19th at Calvary United Methodist Church, 34 Clarke Ave, Uniontown, PA, with viewing from 10 to 11:00 a.m. and Services officiated by Dr. David R. Boyd starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA
