Curtis Wayne Tharpe

Curtis Wayne Tharpe, 56 years of Uniontown, PA passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was born May 1, 1961 in Uniontown.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Yolanda Pahle and Eugene “Jiggs” Malaspina, step-grandfather, William Pahle, aunt Esther Brunetti and step-uncle Andrew Pahle.

Curtis was a member of St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church and St. George Maronite Catholic Church and faithfully attended as a Catholic until eight years ago when he became incapacitated. He graduated from Laurel Highlands High School and was a member of the wrestling team. Curtis had been employed by Perma Coat and Joseph Vending. He was a former Cub Scout and at one time won the Outstanding Scout Award. Curtis had a great outlook on life despite being confined to a wheelchair for 37 years. Until a few years ago he enjoyed driving his vehicles, especially four wheeling in his Jeep. Curtis enjoyed TV and the QVC channel where he would purchase gifts for his family members and close friends. He was fond of good food, especially Lebanese food, and enjoyed family gatherings. Years ago Curtis was able to enjoy a two week stay in Australia with several close friends. He dearly loved his maternal and paternal aunts and uncles and special friend Sister (Sr.) Mary Ann Genovich.

Surviving are his mother Loretta M. Malaspino Joseph and her husband Joe T. Joseph, his parents and caregivers for the 37 years he lived as a paraplegic and double amputee, aunt Elizabeth Ann Blair and husband Larry of Uniontown, aunt Marie Greathouse and husband Emil of Fairchance, uncle John R. Joseph and wife Roxanne and uncle Harry V. Joseph and wife Roseann and their children and grandchildren, cousins Rebecca Blair of Cleveland, OH, Marie Katzavanis and husband Nick and children of Pittsburgh, PA, Mark Blair and children and Lori Lindsay and her son CJ and his wife all of Uniontown and other cousins and uncles and good friends and neighbors.

Curtis will be deeply missed by his loving mom and her husband Joe and by his two cats Mia and Boo Boo. Until his death he missed his beloved collie, Mandy. He was the son who made sure to call his mom every night to make certain she was well and never forgot her on her birthday or holidays. He lived a full life and we know he’s looking down on us today.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at St. George Maronite Catholic Church with Rev. Father El-Badaoui Habib as Celebrant. Entombment followed in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Monsignor Michael W. Matusak, Rev. Ftr. El-Badaoui Habib, Pastor Nick Cook of Abundant life Church and Pastor Buzz Hall of Solid Rock Ministries for their spiritual guidance and friendship, Mr. Pat Lion for the help and guidance he provided Curtis and Mr. Harry Fee for the many times he came to groom Curtis’s hair and beard. The family is extremely grateful to the ladies of St. George Maronite Church for the wonderful meal they provided the family following the funeral services.
