Richard M. “Dick” Smith

Richard M. “Dick” Smith, 85 years of Uniontown, PA passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Mount St. Macrina Manor. He was born June 2, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, PA.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Herbert Morrison Smith and Ethelclaire Rhodes Smith, his wife Opal Mae Rowan Smith, two sons, Michael M. Smith and Robert R. Smith and a brother Thomas Smith.

Dick was a veteran of the Korean War having served honorably in the USMC. He formerly worked for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, the Leland Bible Class and was a Past Commander of NUVFW Post 8543 and former member of Amvets General Marshall Post 103. Dick was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving are a son Richard D. Smith and wife Rosemary of Lemont Furnace, a daughter Jane Ann Collins and husband Dale of Pittsburgh, PA, a grandson, Bryan Smith and wife Christie of Uniontown and a great-granddaughter, Rosalie Jane Smith whom he adored. Also surviving is a special friend Sara Shipley of Mt. Braddock, PA, his best buddy “Max” and his very caring neighbors, Joyce Hutchinson and Helen Lucy.

Friends will be received in the Shell Funeral Home, Inc., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA on Friday, July 14th from 3 to 8 PM and on Saturday, July 15th until 11 AM the hour of service with Rev. Timothy Rogers officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ruby Raffle and Ruthie Thomas for their help and care. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Fayette Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 1282, Uniontown, PA 15401.
