Elzie E. Lavery, Sr.

Elzie E. Lavery, Sr., 71, of Uniontown, PA passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents John W. Lavery and Pearl (Byers) Lavery, his wife of 44 years Joanne Christine (Wilson) Lavery, and two brothers, Michael Keith Lavery and Ronald Patrick “Pat” Lavery.

Elzie was a member of St. Therese R.C. Church, served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War, was an employee of United States Steel Homestead Works, salesman for Kinney Shoes, and a real estate entrepreneur. He was a baseball and soccer coach who loved videotaping the games for the players and their fans. He missed his wife dearly and they are now reunited. Elzie was a family man. He loved having breakfast with his sons and grandchildren. He found the greatest joy and sharing time with his family for holiday gatherings and special events. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed their successes in life. He loved shooting with his grandson. Elzie will forever be loved and cherished by his family and friends.

Surviving are three children, Elzie Lavery, Jr. and Jonathan Lavery, both of Uniontown, and Nicole Lavery-Behlke and husband Jon of Hopwood, six grandchildren, Calyssa, Alexandra, and Abigail Lavery, Paul Pohuly and Madelyn and Lauren Behlke, three siblings, John Lavery and wife Diane, William T. “Terry” Lavery and wife Terri Lynn, all of Uniontown, and Pearl Lavery of Winston-Salem, N.C., three aunts Alberta Byers, Mary Rushin, and Helen Kanar, all of Uniontown, a sister-in-law Janice Wilson of Hoover, AL, nephew Billy Wilson and nieces Chrissy and Janelle Wilson.

Friends will be received in the Shell Funeral Home, Inc., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Ave, Uniontown, PA on Friday, March 1st, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Saturday, March 2nd, until 1PM when services will be held. Interment will be private.
