Benjamin Cloyd Sumey

Benjamin Cloyd Sumey, age 83, of High House, McClellandtown, PA passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018, at home with his close family by his side.

He was born at his childhood home on Walnut Hill Rd, Uniontown, PA on Tuesday, September 4, 1934, son of Clyde and Sara (Fearer) Sumey.

In addition to his parents, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, he is predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Twila Gressly Sumey.

Ben was co-owner, with his wife, of Sumey’s Personal Care Home in High House. Prior to entering the care home business, he was the co-owner of Fayette Coal Company in Dunbar and had his own milking dairy farm in High House. Ben was an owner of a 100 acre farm which he proudly maintained.

He is survived by his children, Cloyd L. Sumey, Uniontown, Darla R. Wingrove (William), WA, Susan Shoemaker-Adkins (Greg) Uniontown, and Beth A Sumey at home; six grandsons, William Jr. (Angela) and Robert Wingrove, Jonathan Sumey, Matthew Shoemaker, Joshua Sumey (Samantha), and Justin Shoemaker (Vanessa); four great grandchildren; five siblings Betty Harring, Merwin Sumey, Carol Wilson, Patty Kahl, James Sumey; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received in the Shell Funeral Home Inc., 164 S. Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, PA on Monday, February 12th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8, and on Tuesday, February 13th, until 11 AM, the hour of service with the Rev. Timothy Tanner officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sylvan Heights Cemetery Mausoleum.

Ben’s daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Greg, would like to thank Amedysis Hospice, especially dad’s nurses and his special CNA, Betty, for their extraordinary care, patience and understanding of Ben’s needs and care. Your presence and daily care was very much appreciated!
